- Review of Louisiana legal requirements for ESAs
- Develop a process for evaluating a client’s need for an emotional support animal (ESA)
- Evaluate a client for a requested ESA letter and determine if the request is appropriate.
- Explore the appropriate components of an ESA letter.
- Evaluate associated risks and ethical challenges to writing ESA letters.
Seminar Presenter: Rachel Weiss Rachlinski, Doctoral Candidate, LPC-S
About
Rachel Rachlinski, LPC-S has been a licensed professional counselor for over 15 years. She is currently licensed and actively practices in both Louisiana and Maryland. She has experience working in schools as a counselor, including Head Start and Middle School, and across all levels of K-12 schools as an advocate for client needs. She received a post-master's certificate in Human-Animal Interactions from the University of Denver, which enabled her to integrate animal assisted therapy into her private practice. She has been using animal interventions for over 9 years with various animal partners, including a bearded dragon, a tortoise, guinea pigs, and dogs.
Ms. Rachlinski has delivered presentations and recently published her first article based on her work with animals. She is currently working on a study to understand how licensed professional counselors have implemented animal assisted therapy in their outpatient practices to fulfill her PhD degree requirements. She plans to continue this area of interest for future research and publication.
She has been performing emotional support animal evaluations and writing letters for seven years.
